The New Year starts our fundraising campaign to move to a larger, staffed space. By doubling our space we can more than double the amount of books going into the homes of children who really need them. Read about it here in the Cherry Hill Sun!

Honored to have Dr. Molly Ness cover us in her fantastic podcast series: End Book Deserts. She is a powerful advocate who does an incredible job aggregating different programs around the country that flood books into book deserts! Podcast: BookSmiles |

Thanks Fox29's Bill Anderson for featuring us in your news program - "For Goodness Sake." Signal Hill Elementary School came together to give BookSmiles a donation exceeding 5,000 books. And they gave us a great donation last year. Here is a great article in The Voorhees Sun. November 3, 2018
We are so proud to have inspired Computer Smiles, which recently became a 501(c)(3) non profit. Headed by Marc Goldstein, this wonderful organization does to gently used computers what we do with books. We give them new lives by getting them into the homes and hands of children who really need them! Check out the article in The Cherry Hill Sun! |

It was so great to speak about spreading literacy during the Meliora alumni weekend at my alma mater, the University of Rochester. There is so much grinding poverty in Rochester, and it won't be long before BookSmiles allies itself with the university to fill hands and homes with life-changing children's books. |

We recently learned that the Virtua network has a Virtua Mobile Farmers Market that goes to "food deserts" in South Jersey. These are areas that lack nearby supermarkets and many of their residents lack the funds to buy fresh produce. By providing quality food at bargain prices, Virtua helps keep people healthy and out of the hospital! We're pleased to say that BookSmiles now enjoys an alliance with Virtua. They will help us put books into the homes and hands of babies and children who never make it to Barnes and Noble. BookSmiles plans to channel tens of thousands of books into Virtua's program over the next couple years! |

During the week of February 19 - 23, BookSmiles had a presence in four PATCO stations because we were sponsored by the PATCO Cares program. In addition to collecting 1,120 books from riders, we shared our vision with hundreds of commuters; children in underserved districts can have their own library! It happens when people DONATE! |

We're thrilled to be featured in a Philadelphia Inquirer article that includes information about other nonprofits that share our vision to enrich children's lives by getting books into their hands. Every single child should have access to good books outside of their schools! Look for the mention of nationally known research work by Professors Neuman and Celano, who are conducting an 18-month study by the William Penn Foundation about "book deserts" and how to change them! |
