We received this update from our contact in Jamaica, eight months after Hurricane Melissa made a catastrophic landfall in late 2025. We were able to send four pallets of children's books to the island.

Dear BookSmiles Team,
On behalf of Bridgeview Foundation Inc., I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of our Help, Heal, and Rebuild Campaign. Your contributions have significantly impacted the lives of numerous individuals and communities affected by Hurricane Melissa.

I am pleased to provide you with an update on the distribution of the donated supplies. We partnered with Food For The Poor Jamaica, a respected charitable organization with 43 years of experience and a proven record of service to the poor and vulnerable. A large portion of our supplies was entrusted to them due to their extensive capacity and established network for efficiently distributing aid throughout Jamaica. We received our portion of the supplies on June 5, enabling us to fulfill our commitment to assist the western regions of the island, devastated by Hurricane Melissa, as well as the eastern communities that also experienced damage.

Last week, we successfully distributed the bulk of our supplies to three educational institutions: Mico Practising and Junior High School, Craighton Primary and Infant School, and St. Martin De Porres Primary and Infant School. I've included links and images that showcase these efforts.https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BULHCLRry/
In addition, we donated a printer, scanner, and a case of printer paper to the Irish Town Police Station. The officers often travel to the Maryland District to use the printer at our Homework Center for important police documents. We take pride in supporting their work and making essential resources more accessible.https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1Hma4C899c/
Our Homework Center has been improved with the addition of new computers, the replacement of a broken printer, and a generator. These upgrades ensure that both students and community members will have steady access to reliable educational resources.
We are currently planning how to distribute the other miscellaneous items to families and individuals in need within our community. Thanks to recent changes in Jamaican laws and the strategic foresight of our partner, we extended support by providing food supplies to our Haitian neighbors. This initiative broadens the impact of our campaign, ensuring we make a positive difference beyond our immediate surroundings.
Your generosity has played a vital role in restoring hope, strengthening communities, and supporting families as they work to rebuild their lives following this devastating disaster.
Your trust, partnership, and unwavering commitment to bringing meaningful change are truly appreciated

With sincere gratitude,

Shamma Dickens-Phillips
