How to Donate Books to BookSmiles?

Thank you for thinking of BookSmiles! Your donated books help us put new-to-them books into the hands of children who need them most.

What can I donate?
We gladly accept:
  • New and gently used children’s books
  • Young adult books
  • Adult books and home or estate libraries
  • We accept ALL books: Fiction, non-fiction, class sets, library discards, cookbooks, religious, art, dictionaries, encyclopedias, maps and newspapers.

What happens to adult or older books?
BookSmiles partners with trusted book resellers who:
  • exchange full gaylords of adult books for children’s books, or
  • resell books and return a portion of the proceeds to support our operating expenses.
This allows your entire donation to support our literacy mission—even when the books are not a direct fit for our programs.

Small donations
Individual or small donations may be dropped off at our BookSmiles location during regular business hours.  If you have a small amount of books to donate, you may find a painted collection bin near you.  See list below.

Home and estate libraries
For qualifying home or estate libraries of five or more full bookshelves, we may be able to arrange a pickup.

Questions or to schedule a large donation?
Please contact [email protected] before dropping off large quantities (van, U Haul, or truckload) so we can confirm space and logistics.
