How great it is to receive a hefty donation from Lindenwold Cub Scout Pack 120! The boys pooled their resources and brought in 335 terrific books! I really enjoyed talking about my days in the Navy, in addition to the importance of spreading literacy in our Lindenwold community, simply by sharing books that we have outgrown.
A big thanks to the scouts and Cub Master Dan O'Roarke for coordinating the effort!

Recently, Bethany Baptist Church gave away about 500 turkeys in Lindenwold High School's Cafeteria. BookSmiles anticipated hundreds of children there, and jumped at the chance to distribute nearly 700 books at a pop-up book fair.
Most children who grow up to attend college have hundreds of children's books in their homes! This is one reason why BookSmiles is committed to making sure that all children in Lindenwold and surrounding areas are able to cram their bookshelves with libraries of their own! The three pictures above illustrate the BookSmiles' model. Here I am with a great 500-book dontation from Moorestown High School's Interact Club. Another photo shows the Lindenwold High School Students who sort the books and help distribute. In the final pic, we see smiling kids at Elementary School #5's Hispanic Heritage night, on the way to creating their own large libraries! We want every child in Lindenwold to have their own library, so that will mean collecting 200,000 books! The need is huge! A huge thanks to Fracesca Li, president of Moorestown's Interact Club for coordinating the book collection at MHS! We look forward to your next drive! Kay Baggs is our awesome media specialist here at Lindenwold High School. She recently started putting feelers out in Haddon Township, where she lives. One wonderful neighbor donated over 400 books her children have outgrown! These books will be part of the 2000 to be given away at the pop up book fair we will have this December at the middle school.
Kay is a huge BookSmiles supporter, completely committed to enabling all Lindenwold children to have a library of their own! |
