On the broiling afternoon of June 13th, just as Elementary School 4 let out, L.H.S students and I put several hundred books into the hands of parents and children. To finally experience the vision I had back in April, to intercept parents picking up their children, was incredibly gratifying. Children’s books suffocate on shelves and in dusty bins after their owners outgrow them. These precious books deserve to be loved a second and even third time. The formula is so simple: to compel people to gather bushels of new and gently used books from their children’s shelves, and give them new life in Lindenwold homes, where they can stoke more imaginations and stimulate literacy skills. Thanks go to my students who approached parents in their air-conditioned cars, and encouraged them that this free-book thing is for real! Thank you Leo Club for latching onto this project, and helping with the sorting and distribution. Thank you donors! Keep the avalanche of children’s books coming! Since December, we have distributed over 3000 books! Thank you Lindenwold parents, who are helping to fulfill the vision of all young children in Lindenwold having their own library!
